Seems even with the new scanners there is some issue why they have to limit items to no more than 100ml temporarily. Maybe waiting for a software update… though if there is a loophole seems weird to wait until September 1st…

From the linked regulation:

> Technical information received by the Commission and validated by ECAC States and laboratories, shows that the existing configurations of standard C3 EDSCB equipment to which the Commission has granted the ‘EU Stamp’ marking or the ‘EU Stamp pending’ marking need to be revised in order to improve their performance

Sounds like this might be a software problem of some sort, although it’s surprising if that’s affecting multiple vendors. Maybe an issue with the certification process?

Basically no change. 100ml limit per bottle was always there, and still is.
Not at airports that installed the new scanners. Like London City e.g.https://www.londoncityairport.com/at-the-airport/need-to-kno...
What's different with these scanners? Can they identify the molecular structure of the liquids or what was the problem previously?
Schiphol has those fancy scanners and they allow to bring bottles with you and did so for years.
yes as has Arlanda for example. They now found a problem with them and now you even there from sept. 1 can not take more then 100ml
But some gates don't, or it is broken...
Gates? The scanners are at security
I wish someone would explain to me why confiscating my clear plastic water bottle from me at the airport is such a security priority.

TLDW: was previously hard to tell the difference between water and explosives.

Taking a gulp or two from the bottle should be enough of a differentiator, IMO.

Are there edible explosives?

The queues are long enough already, much faster to just say no.

Yes, quite a lot, food calories can be made explosive. Don't give them ideas.

Are phone batteries explosive? Able to generate a fire that can’t be extinguished with a fire extinguisher?

Do we allow 100ml of phone battery? Does a Macbook contain even more energy?

We allow 100wh of batteries in individual devices
Fires, despite being bad, are less of a hazard than explosives of the same total energy.
It could be a bomb!
