If they put the tech into a keyfob, as suggested by the article, does that mean I would never lose my keys again?

Apple leaks and patents suggest that they're even aiming to have distributed location recovery, e.g., you lose your keys in a store and turn on 'find my keys', some random person's iPhone detects them and pings Apple, and Apple pings you with the location.
RIP Tile.
In a nightmarish scenario, I can easily imagine Apple's success killing off Tile. Which would be a shame as I really love my Tiles.
I guess it depends on if UWB devices can detect the location of beacon devices regardless of whether or not they specifically integrate with the "finder device"'s manufacturer. IE would Toyota and others have to add some code to work with Apple's chip, or can every device find other devices in beacon mode? (Another hurdle is if Apple limits what you can do with the chip as a developer, since they've done this for their NFC tech)
Hopefully manufacturers can take advantage of it faster than they have adopted CarPlay...
You can already get a Tile and attach it to your keyfob, but yeah this would bring higher precision.
Tile does it, but it's essentially an active beacon, which isn't really privacy friendly as it allows your movements to be tracked. Apple's innovation here seems to be doing it in a privacy friendly way https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20129942
If your Apple Watch has a U1 chip, it can become the key fob and your wallet with Apple Pay.
I think that's exactly what this means, friend. /me cackles loudly
I wonder what the battery life of a keyfob like that would be.
