You can already get a Tile and attach it to your keyfob, but yeah this would bring higher precision.

Tile does it, but it's essentially an active beacon, which isn't really privacy friendly as it allows your movements to be tracked. Apple's innovation here seems to be doing it in a privacy friendly way https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20129942
