Would you mind elaborating on the "dual motor" aspect? That would be down from 4 motors?

The Model X is dual motor all wheel drive. So maybe it's being ported over to the Model S. Musk speaking about it below.

Dual motor would make it AWD. The current Model S is a single motor RWD.
The current Model S only has one motor.
The frame on display in their showroom seems to have two motors in the back, except one of them acts as a generator (for regenerative braking). Maybe they changed the power routing to let it drive as well? Sounds like too small a change for such a fancy rollout.
This is just speculation but I doubt only one side handles the regenerative braking. If you think about it that wouldn't really make sense.

The dual motor would come into play making it an AWD car instead of just RWD, that seems more plausible.

There is one motor. The other large cylinder (that does look just like the motor) is the inverter: it turns the DC from the batteries into AC for the motor.
Could be like the dual-engine Tiburon.
