The future of electric transportation is bikes. Or some share of it at least. Perhaps something along the lines of Altera later, but we’re not there yet.
Our family has a big-ish crossover. With modern safe child seats that’s almost a necessity for families with small kids these days.
But instead of a second car we both have electric bikes and take the bike to work (when it’s not snowing, we live in the north).
Don’t have to worry about needing to go to a gym, it’s free exercise, and uses far less energy than the car.
I couldn’t get to work in a reasonable time without an electric bikes. My parents always had two cars as long as I can remember. Only with e-bikes is a second car fully redundant for us. (You may ask about winter.. we have decent public transportation here two so that’s also important)
So does it matter then that the one car we do have is a bit on the big side?
True ! that's why I said medium sized car. :)
And I don't use it for commuting to work or go to groceries. So what's remaining needs a car with descent size and range for 2 persons.
Best alternative for me would be that a fair car sharing/rental system develop even more so I can ditch my car and only rent the car size I need for the trip.
