> The claim that high-schoolers are going to stick to iOS for iMessage isn't going to hold up to this much pressure, and no $3 trillion company is going to survive on Mean Girls (2004).

Apple is a fashion brand. iPhones have been functionally inferior to alternatives for a very long time, missing many basic features, but that hasn't stopped people from buying them. Speed isn't going to make a difference.

iPhones have the fastest chip in existence in this market which also happens to be the most efficient.

The screens are some of the highest quality.

The cameras are among the best.

The software is unique and much more consistent and easy to use than the alternative.

I’m not sure what your definition of functionally inferior is but it’s very clearly the best choice for a significant majority of people.

This is a relatively recent development. For a long time, Android phones were faster even with inferior CPUs due to having better software.

> The screens are some of the highest quality.

The screens are the same as any other premium phone and for a long time were inferior, being late to adopt OLED.

Also same as any any other premium phone and inferior for a long time before that.

The software is significantly worse, lacking copy and paste for a long time and then lacking turn by turn navigation for a long time. The update experience remains significantly worse. Notifications remain much worse. Use as a combined work and personal phone remains much worse. Use as a telephone remains much worse. Use as a general purpose computing device remains much worse.
