Society has decided that car crashes are a worthy trade off for having cars. Its not in the news because the vast majority of americans agree that cars are good even if they have downsides.
Exactly. The large majority of Americans do NOT want to live in walkable cities or towns; they love using cars to get everywhere, even across the street, and get angry at any suggestions that challenge their car-based lifestyle. Car crashes are simply a necessary cost to this lifestyle that most Americans prefer.
