according to this study, tartrazine can cause kidney and liver damage in rats https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5326541/ like an x-ray, I'd risk that for a one-off doctors appointment, but I'd probably not risk it on my body at all times. maybe there are safer dyes that have the same effect |

Given the effect is optical, perhaps encapsulation in benign, transparent beads? (Could be particularly effective is the goal is a tattoo.)
