I think Apple’s position here is commendable. They appear to be holding true to promises of user privacy even though the UK watchdog will be doing everything they can to pressure Apple into becoming part of the massive UK surveillance state. Including making them out to be the ‘bad guys’. CSAM is prone to false positives, which are enough to ruin people’s lives - but more than that, it’s the same as treating everyone as guilty and doing a raid of your digital ‘home’ without a warrant. |

Apple is already a participant in the UK's warrantless surveillance program. They are enrolled in the United States PRISM program which is a known component of the FIVE-EYES international surveillance network. The UK is one of the longest-standing members of the FIVE-EYES network, and a direct consumer of Apple-provided surveillance information.
