The entire scientific publication process is garbage. I say that as someone on ~140 papers who has quit academia: we focus on writing papers that nobody reads to tick boxes for career progression. The only one who benefits is the for-profit publishers who drown in taxpayer money. Why not automate the entire process?

Interesting point, but running towards the precipice might be just one of the solutions. To me, also an academic and considering to leave after an h index of 14 obtained in just a decade, the problem is the noise that all those shitty papers generate. Perhaps we should use AI to classify them ad noise vs valuable contribution?
