This issue will never get the attention it needs because both sides are more interested in politicizing it then actually fixing it. Meanwhile, real people are caught in the middle and literally dying.

It's a strange issue to me. People all over the world, but particularly south of the US border feel compelled to come to the US for opportunity, and I suppose they are finding employment at least. How do you fix that?
A lot of the people coming across the southern border aren't necessarily coming for opportunity, so much as to escape a dangerous situation. The issue isn't a simple one, and it requires a wholistic approach. Unfortunately, our current political discourse doesn't really support measured, nuanced discussion. Everything needs to be an emotional appeal in less than 300 characters. We'll never find a resolution when one side wants to literally militarize the border and the other side wants to fully open it, and no one wants to explore solutions in the middle. I say this as a very left-leaning person who would be fine with an open border, but I know it's not a popular solution and a real solution needs to be more measured.
