It's a strange issue to me. People all over the world, but particularly south of the US border feel compelled to come to the US for opportunity, and I suppose they are finding employment at least. How do you fix that?

A lot of the people coming across the southern border aren't necessarily coming for opportunity, so much as to escape a dangerous situation. The issue isn't a simple one, and it requires a wholistic approach. Unfortunately, our current political discourse doesn't really support measured, nuanced discussion. Everything needs to be an emotional appeal in less than 300 characters. We'll never find a resolution when one side wants to literally militarize the border and the other side wants to fully open it, and no one wants to explore solutions in the middle. I say this as a very left-leaning person who would be fine with an open border, but I know it's not a popular solution and a real solution needs to be more measured.
