AI doomer doomers are probably wrong too. Call me an optimist, I think any real doom will be accounted for or caught in time before it reaches doom status.
In today's world, where is your confidence coming from? Maybe I'm just too pessimistic, but when studying WWII in school, I was always baffled by how the people could allow such people to become in charge. I always felt like nothing like that could happen today because as a society, we've learned what can happen and quash it before it gets to that point again. Yet, here I sit today amazed that it isn't being quashed.
So, the reasoning for my disagreeing is largely based on the lack of evidence that as a society we just can't help but fire the footguns
Edit: also, let's also look at the precedence on the decisions made by the socials on how companies will use tech/data/manipulation/etc. not good there either
I think the Capitalist AI pollyannas are blind to the possibilities for AGIs to do bad things to at least some of humanity once the AGI discovers Historical Materialism and/or Ecological Economics and, rightly in my opinion, inductively reasons about who is responsible for the root causes of our destruction of the biosphere.
