That was when stuff like "proper testing" was deemed to be too expensive. It's unlikely to break existing workflows with extending something, but very easy to do so during a modification. Companies used to have hordes of manual testers/QA staff, that all got replaced by automated tools of questionable utility and capability. |

Automation should mean you can do a better job, more efficiently, more easily. Unfortunately, ever since the Industrial Revolution, it seems to mean you can do a quicker job with less money spent on labour costs.
