I have 30 days of vacation in my contract and I am free to use them whenever I want. It is also backed with the legal right to 4 weeks of consecutive vacation during Jun-Aug, a right that the employer cannot deny. Of course I live in Scandinavia. Sweden to be precise.

I think these rules are more or less the same in Scandinavia. The Norwegian rules are well explained at Arbeidstilsynet [0]. Basically 5 weeks per year, 6 weeks if you are 60 years old or older. Of course, people may have more vacation per contract, but in general, you can't have less.

Most Norwegians take about 4 weeks of vacation during July.

Can confirm, I work with Swedish people and they all disappear come summer time, I see them again in September.
