EV cars need replaceable batteries so that they can be charged at home. The batteries also need to become less heavier so people can carry it to their home to plug them in. There should also be some designated spare battery storage in car so that extra batteries can be kept. Without this, EVs would remain a privilege for a select few who can afford the private infra. Charging stations can only go so far. You can carry spare liquid gas in extreme circumstances, similar capabilities are needed here, everyone wants to be prepared for worst case.

Do you realize how heavy batteries are?

Also, detachable batteries are a huge safety risk. (One bad contact and you could literally die.)

For this reason they don't even put detachable batteries into electric scooters and bikes anymore.

I once saw a project where a guy had taken an old 1980s chevy cavalier, chopped off and capped everything past the engine firewall and turned it into a trailer that he attached to his EV and used as a generator for long trips.

This was janky and amusing but I feel like this concept is a great one for solving the range problem. Just rent a generator trailer for long trips, or you could buy one if you used it semi-often.

this is a bad idea

- the battery won't be able to be a stressed member of the chassis, increasing weight and decreasing range for the same size of pack

- designing high voltage contactors and mechanical fasteners to cycle safely however many hundreds of times is difficult
