OS X does not exist anymore, it’s macOS and has been for a long time now.

Darwin has gone by lots of names, but that doesn't really change anything.

They're two names for the same thing, but yes, people should use the current name.

Also, it was never “OSX”, like the article uses, but so many people call it that.

I disagree. It is unambiguous.

maacOS (in addition to bad capitalisation) could refer to an older and completely different OS.

Meybe not in this context, but it in general clearer is better.
