| reminder that telegram recently added this to their ToS "2) For personalized ads, Telegram will analyze IP addresses, down to the city, will analyze users' interests based on search queries, subscriptions and contacts, and data "collected from other platforms." 3) Personalized ads will also appear in private channels. 4) A "list of identification numbers based on the phone numbers of platform users" will also be used for personalized ads. Telegram states that it will not collect the above data if the user is a Telegram Premium subscriber." promote.telegram.org still says "This means that no user data is mined or analyzed to display ads, and every user viewing a particular channel on Telegram sees the same sponsored messages." i wouldn't really trust a platform that went full 360° with their promises multiple times in the past and is now doing it again |
The first one is your post here on HN
The second is a post on an obscure forum that links to a .onion site that doesn’t open.
I can’t find that text in Telegram’s TOS or Privacy Policy so if you can provide a source that would be great.
Side note, and a very pedantic one, if you do a full 360° the end result is that you aren’t changing direction one bit. You probably meant full 180°
