Companies are notoriously bad at listing what they actually hire for in a JD. So unfortunately this might be misleading... It really only answers the question -- "If I want a job right now, and only for now, and I do not know any programming languages, which should I learn?"

It doesnt even give job stability because some of the highest languages may be on their way out, whereas the lowest might be just coming to popularity (and will rise for +10 yrs) ...

True that. One particularly odd situation is common in data engineering circles. Most DE descriptions require something like "experience with Java/Scala/Python". Notice that one of them is from a completely different family than the others. Very frequently nowadays they actually have a predominantly Python code base.

Searching by simply "Java" or "Scala" is nonsensical for exactly this reason. They are mentioned in a large number of job ads just in case. Even if they are not actually used.
