Wow. So here's a thought...maybe he was trying get ahead of all of this by making a bid for Twitter, in order to squash stories and control the narrative, knowing that this would all come out?
yeah, because trying to buy out a billion dollar company in a take over that will take months to complete is a great way of getting ahead of something like this. makes total sense
Future somethings like this?
the entire media doesn't like him, do you think not being able to post on twitter is going to prevent them from disseminating any potentially bad info on Musk?

Will it stop CNBC, CNN etc etc from doing their reporting?

So he’s either paying for a $43 billion distraction or a $1 billion distraction, depending on whether or not he actually wants to own Twitter…?

If the idea was to throw money at these allegations until they go away, Musk could have just paid her $250 million to shut up, and he’d still be getting a deal. Not to mention that taking a suitcase of cash to a parking garage is probably simpler than hitting up Morgan Stanley for $20 billion.

And honestly I don’t think Musk cares enough about sexual assault allegations to put that much effort into trying to avoid them.

It's not even the girl the accusations came from talking to the NYT, it's her friend... So this is hearsay, with no direct evidence. Then, you have the assumption of guilt, while a settlement means no such thing, it just means they paid her to go away and shut up. I mean, he probably did do it, but that doesn't change the fact that these are unfounded rumors without evidence or even firsthand testimony being thrown around.
I wouldn't go that far, but most of the recent bluster is definitely all about getting ahead of the story. It's so obvious. Guy's a douche.
> offer to buy her a horse

is that what people want these days?

no

This is a problem as old as man - men in power enslaved women in the literal sense, now they try with economic bondage. We have seen the Weinstein - layer upon layer of entrapment and coercion with people of wealth and power - Gates as well as UK Royals. Huge efforts to hide/cover - the apparent murder of Weinstein in a supposedly safe cell? All this as result of hidden social circles. sex, influence, with aging men wanting to buy what nature draws further from their reach. Hey, I am 83 = I know better. I am not going to rejoin my teen years of dating, leaning about love, meeting a new love etc etc. I did that, married, my wife and I have 2 daughters and a son and there are 3 grandchildren = I am done, my wife passed away from cancer = me and my 9 year old cat(Lightning) soldier on into the infinite future. I have established a $100/month pension for lightning so when I pass, she will have a warm hearth among a loving family. So what is Musk's game? is his $$ going to buy love?, respect?, virility? - will it ever buy being 18 at the Senior Prom? What was Weinstein's game, Gates's game, Prince what's his Royal name's game? There is an old saying - There is no fool like an old fool = https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/there%27s_no_fool_like_an_old...

Musk is rich, he is smart, but he is not wise.

Musk is not old. Obviously he wanted easy A (hey, it was RIGHT there), but a man of his position could drop by any hotel bar and score with a stranger. Whenever he wanted to.
