Somewhat off topic: is there another English term for Zugwang?

The article offers the literal translation "move compulsion". No single word translation, alas. Languages like German and Dutch simply have more freedom to combine words into longer compound words (see this 63-letter example [1]).

Doubt it. For one, English doesn't often glue words together into a nice long spaceless string like German. Also there's a love of loan words (French, Latin) that means you wouldn't make up a term from your own vocab like the Germans do.

Have a google for "Uncleftish Beholding" for some entertainment.

Cosmic Wimpout is a very different game but I like the name of its rule that forces you to continue: "you may not want to buy you must". A bit too long to be a term though.

Not quite the same, but being "stuck between a rock and a hard place" has a similar meaning. There's also Cornelian dilemma.

But at least in games like chess, everyone just says Zugzwang.
