128GB of RAM in M1 Ultra is unimpressive compared to 1.5TB of RAM in Mac Pro. Right now Apple doesn’t have a replacement for Mac Pro with Apple Silicon

EDIT: At the end of the presentation Apple said Mac Pro refresh is coming later so let’s wait and see

To quote Gen Z: M1 memory hits different. For many workloads on the M1, you really can get by with less RAM.

Of course there is the HN Superstar who needs 1TB just to get their IDE open, but for most people the 8GB works as well as 16GB on the Intel versions.

*128GB. I dislike how they omit this and act like it's more powerful than Mac Pro.
They said "a new Mac Pro is coming, but that's for another day" in the event.
Looking at the CPU/GPU power, it seems to be. Which is amazing considering how much a well-speced Mac Pro costs and how large it is. They also mentioned that a Mac Pro is coming up, expect even more power there and probably some solution for larger memory sizes.
That Mac Pro probably won't include a new chip though since they said "one last chip" when presenting M1 Ultra. So no more than 128gb of HBM, but maybe there will be some kind of DIMM support?
I assume they will do 2x M1 Ultra. There are limited quantities of LPDDR5x with 64GB per package. That is 512GB for M1 Ultra, 1TB for 2x M1 Ultra.

I think and assume they will continue to stick with LPDDR5 rather than standard DDR5 with DIMM slot.

And they acknowledge that at the very end of the event with "Mac Pro ... that is for another day" or so. It's coming and the Studio is not supposed to be it.
