I think if he purposely run into the police with his motorcycle, then combined with a political slogan at the back of the vehicle makes for a clear case of terrorism (which can also be given a sentence of imprisonment of life). But obviously the secession charge is more controversial and its impact (if indicted) is more far-reaching.

Funny to compare the western press's coverage of this story with how they've reported incidents nearer to home where Islamic extremists have deliberately driven vehicles into people.

For example, BBC World Service's news coverage concentrated on whether or not the charged man would have the right to appeal against whatever sentence he is handed down and whether he'd be sent to the mainland to serve it. They didn't even mention the injuries received by the cops he tried to run down.

And I see the same sentiment being expressed here in the comments. Just because China is the bad guy here makes it OK to deliberately ride a vehicle into people?
