The landing page provides very little information to be honest. I found the examples in the blog writings to be more informative and illustrate the workflow better: https://www.juiceanalytics.com/writing
I also wonder to what extent this could offer more things than things like Tableau. The looks are different I agree, but the general functionalities seem very similar.
Thanks for poking around to find more info on Juicebox. I've put together a few videos showing how to build simple things in the platform: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTTtxSPAWvrjlDdCHz0ktcQ/vid...
We are explicitly not trying to replicate Tableau (or PowerBI) functionality. We've heard people asking for something that is simpler, lightweight, and more focused on the presentation and explanation of data. In contrast, those tools are focused on deep-dive analysis and exploration. It is kind of like the difference between PowerPoint and Excel.
I think the overview video should appear on the landing page. A GIF showcasing color changing capability is less impressive.
Also, I'm not saying you should replicate Tableau or PowerBI. I'm saying they can do pretty much what you do (based on what I see in the videos), i.e., generating a report containing a bunch visualizations and explanations. This is their report gallery: https://public.tableau.com/en-us/gallery/?tab=featured&type=...
Is the main difference being more lightweight (and possibly cheaper)?
We want to differentiate in three way:
1. Yes, cheaper. I'd prefer to call it "more affordable". In particular, it shouldn't be expensive to share with lots of people. That's where those products will get you.
2. Rather than dashboards (where there is an emphasis on putting a bunch of charts on the screen at once), we think in terms of a narrative flow that combines visualizations with text and visual content. More like a scrolling infographic/presentation than a report. Here is a bit of an extreme example: https://www.juiceboxdata.com/a/bunny_finder/bunny_breeds
3. A lot of business users find Tableau and PowerBI to be too complex. We want to make something that is accessible to people who are familiar with Excel PivotTables, but don't want to feel like they need to become trained analysts. So we want the Juicebox authoring experience to be as easy as possible, and result in a professional-looking end product.
Thanks, this makes a lot of sense. I was coming from the angle of authoring expressivity, which would put Juicebox as a subset of them. But indeed, Tableau/PowerBI can be hard to get started and I can see the value of Juicebox in that regard.
Was interested, so I visited the site & was then greeted with a modal immediately saying it's free to try (a demo perhaps?!) - and that just takes me to a sign up page. Any interest I had is now gone
Our free tier will allow for a few users on an account. It does not have a limit on time or number of apps you can create.
Our standard subscription tier will support larger user volumes. We haven't set up the subscription management, so it is all free for now :)
trial free!
talk to us + no pricing info - tells me I can't afford it, and this is a place that gives different prices to different people = I would be wasting time looking any further into it.
Sure I'm not the target market, but I'm not even going to bookmark it so if I get into the target market I won't remember 'there was this cool / fast thing we could use that starts at $X" - and I won't recall this is an option to consider for clients / associates that are in the thousands or hundreds or tens of thousands of budget tiers.
Fair enough that you should be concerned this is going to be too expensive. Our plan is to make it radically affordable at a few tiers:
* Free tier with full functionality but only a few user accounts for the workspace. Unlimited apps.
* Team tier with 5 editors and 15 viewers starting around $50/mo. More users would be incremental fees. We hope to serve most smaller business user at this level.
* Pro tier with advanced customization and enterprise features would be a TBD multiple of the Team tier.
Hope that helps keep this under consideration.
This looks cool! It'd be great to see a demo video or some more screenshots explaining how it works and especially what the output formats are (web, exportable html, pdf infographic?)
Also, can you feed live data for a constantly-updating presentation, or is it more intended for more static data that highlights a particular trend that might not be otherwise obvious?
> We have the ability to create a database connection that would give you live data updates.
An alternate approach to using a DB connection could be creating periodic point-in-time reports rather than live updates, and having visualizations and narrative point out the interesting deltas.
2019-2020 and 2020-2021 are going to have lots of interesting deltas, I think.
Having used Juicebox before, I can attest to its delightful design, how well it communicates about data, and how it leads to making better data-driven decisions. Definitely worth looking into again, now that it’s open to the public.
Looks like the signup does much more than just offer a demo to play with. Looks like upon signup, you are given free reign to play with the current iteration of the product and all (or at least a lot) of the features. Smooth workflow thus far.
I also wonder to what extent this could offer more things than things like Tableau. The looks are different I agree, but the general functionalities seem very similar.
