I probably wouldn't do a take home test for an interview, but if you're only willing to do the bare minimum, it would probably be a better use of your time (as well as whoever is going to grade it) if you simply refused to do it.

Before I accept a take-home project, I explicitly lay out what I will do and the maximum amount of time I will spend doing it. I've walked away from companies that demanded more than I was willing to give.

I dislike take-home tests less than I dislike whiteboard interviews, so I try to be flexible, without being a pushover.
