I've read the name a few times and people seemed to be happy with it, so I gave it a try. I liked it immediately, not least because of the simple but powerful customization. To be honest, I haven't tried any other TWMs yet, but I will soon.

Depending on your background you may be pleased to see StumpWM (https://stumpwm.github.io/).

It's a tiling window manager, as minimal as ratpoison in interface but fully configurable and hackable on runtime, to the point of rebuilding parts of the system as it's running. It's the best WM experience I had since the old Enlightenment and I'm now using it full time. Ah, forgot to mention: it's in Common Lisp, so YMMV by a lot :)
