I fully agree. You must be compensated. It does not have to be cash. Equity works, too. But he(?) needs to be sticking to whatever compensation agreement is in place. That is a deal-breaker. Many of the other issues are going to be a case-by-case basis. Does he know he is being unreasonable? Can you call him on it, and will the behavior change? Does he apologize and correct himself when called on it, or does he defend his actions? In some ways, there is an analogy between working with the CEO of a startup and a marriage. There will be problems. There will be bad times. The question is whether or not both sides are committed to the relationship, willing to hear the other's side, empathize with it, and make the changes necessary to improve it. In most cases, this is just a job, the answer will be "No" and you should quit. |
