I purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 for $760 refurbised w/ a 3-year manufacturer warranty on eBay and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. portability:

* 12.5" 1080p touchscreen (very bright too)
* awesome keyboard
* good trackpad (if you click over the raised nubs in the top center you get a middle click which is handy too)
* convertible with very sturdy hinges
* overall superb build quality (has passed a number of MIL-spec tests)
* all hardware has linux support affordability:
