If you network for the sake of networking, in places that promote networking, then you'll meet others who have the same objective and may not be useful because there is actually no substance to connect over and meaning to exchange.

However if you attend events because you believe the content will be valuable, and you're open to meeting and learning from others, then it's likely (from my experience) that people you meet will prove helpful to you in future.
