In the only show of overwhelming public support was when fundamentalist Christians (who are not affiliated with the government) took over a feminist organization and overwhelming public support for the feminists and homosexuals pushed them out.

I'm not comfortable with blanket statements about Singapore politics and society from armchair political scientists.
