Humans are not going to stop needing sleep, get distracted, or react slowly. All we can really do (and have done) is mitigate. Seat belts, driver training, etc. Whatever problems a machine has, we can improve on them gradually. We can spend loads of time looking at test cases, and improvements are ratcheting. I can't wait for self-driving cars. It will be a massive change to be able to go to sleep in your own comfy bed and wake up in time for a meeting in another town. I also imagine traffic will be smoother, as tolerances don't have to be so wide. |
