Although I agree with you– just to play devil's advocate, I think it's a welcome change from the Sculley days when the Mac nearly died. Rather than appealing to the "true artists and professionals" (which worked out GREAT for Apple /s) during those years, they're appealing to a wider demographic (as they did since the iPhone made smartphones go mainstream). I'm not saying mainstream vs. pro has to be diametrically opposed, but this is a great way to tackle a niche that Apple has been starved of in the pre-iPod era. As a Mac fan, I'm hoping they'll invest this capital back into polishing their software lineup.
