My suggestion would be to use the hardware/software that works best for you (technologically, financially, etc.) and not give a shit about what other people think. A solid reputation for doing good work will speak much louder than your choice of laptop, at least to the people who really matter.

Do you really want to impress someone (or work for someone) who'd treat you differently based on whether "you own a mac" or dress the way they do or drink a particular brand of beer? Do you think someone who makes decisions based on such shallow preferences would have better or worse odds of running a successful business?

That's why, while I still think he's a brilliant dude, I think Peter Thiel's bias against investing in companies whose founders dress more formally is completely idiotic. Who cares if I'm wearing a three piece suit or sneakers, jeans and a hoodie.
yes, you are correct. From other perspective: I use linux in terms of free speech and not in terms of free beer. I do give back to linux community by donations & open source work . Since i don't want to be cheap.
