8000 seems like an awfully high number for whats effectively an e-commerce website. Be nice to know some more details of whats happening behind the scenes.

8k across all of the IT orgs. This project was highly visible to the consumer, which is probably why the author picked it to write about.

A lot of the other stuff is not sexy at all, like data center consolidations.

I agree it does seem high for what is described in the article, but it's a bit more than just your run of the mill ecommerce site.
