What's the argument? I run www.langpop.com, so I'm interested in these kinds of things.

Actually a bit of market research for a book. Trying to decide between two cover blurbs: "A programming background in Java or C++ is recommended." or "A background in object-oriented languages is recommended."

The book uses some Java and C++ comparisons when introducing new concepts.

If the latter phrasing is correct, use that. If you really do need Java or C++ specifically, then use the former.
