The main thing I'd recommend here is this: start building up an online portfolio. Get yourself a GitHub account if you haven't already done so and start contributing to one or two open source projects. Submitting pull requests or patches to existing projects and having them accepted is one way of getting yourself noticed. Start answering questions on Stack Overflow. Start a blog. Leave comments on other people's blogs. Things like these can compensate considerably for a lack of workplace experience. |
