On Chrome on Mac the dragging to the left leaves a trail behind, which goes away when finished.

Same on Safari, besides the fonts “flash” when animations start/stop.

Hardware acceleration on browsers is still complicated.

It's because of hardware acceleration something or other. I don't really know what to do about that :D. I saw the same thing on Chrome and Firefox on Windows until a few months ago. I don't have a Mac so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
