I use Ubuntu on my personal machines. It's free, and works on virtually any machine, has a built in package manager, and the command line interface (eg: bash) lends itself to automation / script writing. Virtual desktops are also ingrained in how I interact with a computer, and Windows doesn't have a good alternative. I've been using Linux pretty much exclusively for close to ten years - the biggest thing for me has been compatibility, but that has gotten a lot better over the years. I have a Macbook for work, and I've been pretty happy with the interface, but the keyboard is subpar, and there is no trackpoint. |
