Inescapable? Sure, if you ignore sample size. There aren't enough countries period, and I don't think they're all similar enough in meaningful ways, for any subset to be considered a representative sample for just about anything.

I don't know enough about the debate to form an educated opinion one way or the other, I just can't stand hyperbole like this, especially when the underlying assumptions are so fundamentally flawed.
