I guess that some interviews are more about showing off their (interviewer's) skills instead of mutually exchanging views. Cliched puzzles around linked lists are one game they are good at and gives them a confidence to beat you at their own game.

I honestly doubt any interviewer is looking to catch someone out by asking them to invert a linked list. Also 5 interviews must be pretty expensive, why would you try to 'beat' the candidate away at that point?
