iOS did have a sizable requirement, although I forget how much space was required to do the install. I had many friends who had difficulty upgrading due to it.

Because I remember iOS7 had the quickest update rate ever. It slows down the Internet as well as router around places.

However to have that kind of update rate their iPhone must have been able to update, I am not so sure everyone had 5GB free space
