In many ways it has held it back, by taking a lot of tech talent. "There’s a real opportunity for growth in an Independent Scotland as a direct result of significant foreign investment (see the Irish tiger of the 80s and 90s)." Given the current state of Ireland, I really, really, really don't think you want to use the Irish tiger as a possibility for a future Scotland. |

Irish GDP per capita is higher than the UK. The fact that there was gross economic mismanagement over the past 15 years doesn't mean that the economy is a permanent basket case.
