Though I take your point about the backup options of swipe and chip, I'm guessing some Stratford mugger is just as happy mugging you for your wallet full of credit cards and cash as they are to bash you over the head for your iphone.

You use your fingerprint to activate the NFC, so they'd have to bash you over the head and cut off your fingers presumably.
