Python and Java are moving targets as well. Adoption of Python 3 in particular has been very slow. Who told you that any language is an 'island of stability'? Use C if you want something approaching that. :-)

I think 'bane' is perfectly aware of your point, that Perl 5/6 are very different languages and even Perl 5's incredibly backwards compatibility.
