I'm not disagreeing with you in thinking the scam is more likely at first glance, but as soon as there was compelling evidence it was not a scam, the professionals involved should have shared their awareness of the obvious biological possibly. The smoking gun in this case that there was not a scam, but something more going on is the fact that she was her kids aunt. |

Chimerism is well-studied because it's biologically interesting, but most social/medical professionals are not expected to come across human chimerism in their whole career.
Chimerism not often documented in humans and the other possibilities (e.g. surrogacy scam) are hugely more probable explanations.
