It's the new Tetris. Years ago Tetris was the typical non-trivial target you were shooting at when trying out stuff.
I think 2048 is that.
I was disappointed that they didn't use it as "The simplest possible game" in the WWDC presentation
It really isn't any more complicated than their typical SpriteKit demos.

yes. IANAL but... copyright law in the US is such that, in essence, everything is copyrighted (to some degree) the moment it is created unless you explicitly state otherwise.

When dealing with anything legally distributed / created in the US there are many questions, but "is it copywritten" should be one of the last ones, because the answer is always YES.
