I think "indifferent" is probably more accurate. The baboon didn't do it out of malice, the idea probably just didn't occur to it.

That actually strikes me as even more grim, in some ways. Nature isn't out to get you, nature just doesn't care at all. It just is.

May be, but many (most?) carnivores first kill their prey before eating them. There are exceptions of course, like the Python.

Either way, it is horrible to watch.
