As a person who is not white, I look at these efforts curiously. They seem generally like a way to hire people like "us", people who like the same music, people who will go to the same bar after work, fundamentally people we are comfortable with...people who will not change the culture. There is a slippery slope of exclusionary behavior associated with this line of thinking -- where some way of being that is foreign or different doesn't get hired or potentially doesn't get funded. |
