With my phone, I am only notified for calls and texts on my homescreen. Everything else I consider low-priority and can wait for an indeterminate amount of time before I check them based on badge icons.

With Facebook's Messenger application, every time I open it up, after a delay of a second or two a splash screen pesters me to turn on Notifications interrupting my flow of whatever I was reading or composing. This is a true nuisance and I hope they fix this in coming updates.
