Sidebar; I have never seen super script in URL before. Didnt even think it was possible.

I think it is bad practice - users cannot type it out if needed

I haven't checked, but I think it isn't a superscript, but an Unicode superscript character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_subscripts_and_superscr...)
URL parsing is done by the page server after the domain is forwarded. You could put any kind of data you want in the url (assuming the server can handle it).
A few years ago there was even a small "gold rush" for emoji domains.
